BOMAKI SHIBORI TECHNIQUE

Japanese Shibori Bomaki dyeing technique will surprise you. It gives a wonderful result.

Materials Needed

  • Heat source (stove, heating element or cooker)
  • Rubber gloves
  • Wooden spoon
  • Smaller container to dissolve the dye
  • Large container for dyeing
  • GUARANY FIXACOR
  • GUARANY TINGECOR in your colour of choice
  • String or thin thread
  • Empty cartridge for tying
  • A pre-washed 100% cotton fabric (percale 200 threads is a good choice or a cotton bed sheet)
  • Rubber bands

Step by step

1.
01/03

Fold the fabric. Measure the space needed for a cylinder to go through. Mark with a pencil so that the seam doesn't skew. Tack the fabric at regular intervals. Tie off the stitches.

2.
02/03

Pass the cylinder through (in this step you can use the empty dye package itself) and press the cloth well to make furrowed. Bind it at both ends with an elastic or rubber band.

3.
03/03

Prepare the dye. Place the fabric in the dyeing bath for 30 minutes. After this, remove it, let it cool and put it in the fixing bath.
